Dave On Clean Sheets & Goals
Notts County Assistant Manager Dave Kevan has hailed the Magpies' recent rock-solid form at the back, and has now called on the side to start taking their chances at the other end.
Saturday's goalless draw at home to Mansfield Town saw the Magpies keep their fourth successive clean sheet with another rock solid performance at the back.
Kevan and Manager Ian McParland are understandably delighted with that statistic and pleased to see the hard work on the training ground beginning to pay off - and now Kevan feels it is time Notts started hitting the net themselves on a more regular basis.
He said: "The clean sheets have been very important to us, and they always give you something to build on.
"We're not taking anything away from that, but we have to take our opportunities now at the other end - no matter how few and far between they are.
"We have to make sure we give our defenders something to hang on to."
Saturday's goalless draw was Notts' fourth 0-0 in six games - and in those six games the Magpies have only hit the net once which was through defender Michael Johnson in the 1-0 win over Rochdale just over a week ago.
However, with only three defeats in fifteen games there's plenty to be positive about at Meadow Lane.
Kevan is not putting any blame on the Magpies' frontmen for the lack of goals and insists if more opportunities are created there is more chance of the strikers taking those chances.
"It is obviously frustrating, not only for our strikers but the team as a whole," he explained.
"Our defenders go up for set-pieces and we're all accountable, and we're all put in situations where we're looking to score goals.
"The brunt of it does fall at the front players and there's no getting away from that, but we're confident if we provide more opportunities for them they will come up with the goods."
