Off the back of his impressive loan spell at Meadow Lane towards the end of the season, which saw him keep seven clean sheets in fourteen games, Ian McParland is keen to make Russell Hoult a permanent member of his squad.

35-year-old Hoult came to Notts' rescue in February when the Magpies were left without a fit senior goalkeeper with Kevin Pilkington and Tim Sandercombe both injured, arriving on loan from Stoke City.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth shot-stopper settled into life at Meadow Lane well, and helped play his role in ensuring Notts retained their League Two status.

And with fellow goalkeeper Kevin Pilkington offered a new contract for next season yesterday, McParland has admitted he would 'love' to have Hoult on board also for next season. Hoult is out of contract at Stoke in June, and as a free agent is free to talk to other clubs.

"I would be very keen to keep Russell Hoult," admitted the Magpies Gaffer.

"I would be nice to see him here, but we are talking finance and it may be tough to keep him - but I would love him to remain at this Football Club."

Another player who impressed in a loan spell at Meadow Lane who is out of contract in the summer is Ryan Jarvis, and McParland admits he is also keen to see if he can bring the cousin of Magpies Captain Adam Tann to the Club on a permanent basis.

He scored twice in seventeen games during three months at Meadow Lane from Norwich City, but also operated out wide on the right-hand side of midfield - and it is his potential to be able to improve which excites McParland.

He said: "Ryan Jarvis is another who finished the season on loan with us who is in my thoughts.

"He is a good lad who works hard in training, but again it is all down to finance and managing what we have got."

McParland also admitted that winger Wayne Corden, who spent the last two months of the season on loan from Leyton Orient, is also a player in his thoughts for the future - while Danny Crow is another player who spent time on loan at Meadow Lane who is someone McParland is pondering a move for. He was made available for transfer from Peterborough United on Tuesday.

However, McParland admits it is far too early in the summer to know if he will certainly make moves for Corden or Crow, but he does seem keen to make Jarvis and Hoult permanent members of his squad if the opportunity arises.

Finance naturally plays a part, adding 'mathematician' to his role over the summer months.

He explained: "At this time of the year you have to juggle things around a bit and deal with your finances - but I'm sure we will come up with the right formula."
