Tommy Unites With Legends For O'Donnell
Notts County Coach Tommy Johnson paid tribute to his former team-mate Phil O'Donnell at the weekend, who sadly passed away last December.
Tommy was part of legends match at Celtic Park on Sunday as Wim Jansen's title-winning Celtic team of 1998 beating the Motherwell Scottish Cup-winning side of 1991. Amongst those legends returning for the game was Swedish striker Henrik Larsson.
Celtic claimed a 5-1 victory on the day, with tributes to the former midfielder hung in every corner of the ground. O'Donnell tragically died on the pitch on December 29 last year during Motherwell's 5-3 victory over Dundee United.
Johnson and O'Donnell were team-mates at Celtic between 1997 and 1999, and also at Sheffield Wednesday in 2001.
To celebrate the life of the 35-year-old, a legends game was organised - and Tommy played around an hour before a crowd of 60,000 at a sun-bathed Celtic Park as more funds were raised for the Phil O'Donnell Trust.
Tommy said: "Phil was a terrific footballer who was unlucky with injuries, and he was a real family man.
"I was only too happy to get involved with the Legends game. To play before a massive crowd like that was once again phenomenal, given Celtic had won the SPL only a few days before.
"Most importantly we were able to celebrate the life of Phil, honour his life and his achievements and also raise funds for his Trust."
