A week on from the first stage of its annual summer treatment, the pitch at Meadow Lane is already making sound progress.

At around 9:30am this morning the pitch was already showing a number of new blades of grass creeping through the surface.

And all that comes just over a week from when 10mm of the surface was ripped up as preparations turned towards the 2008/09 season.

The pitch has taken in a lot of water over the past few days from a number of heavy downpours in Nottingham, and Groundsman Trevor Hutchinson is pleased with the condition of the pitch at this early stage.

Trevor explained to nottscountyfc.co.uk: "It (the pitch) is coming on, and as a groundstafff team we are really pleased at the moment with how the surface is looking at this stage.

"We've had a lot of rain over the last few days; so right now I would say that we could do with a bit more sunlight to really help bring things along.

"From the pictures our fans can see on the website, and if anyone comes down to the ground and takes a look at the surface in person, you can already see we have a large number of new blades of grass already coming through.

"The darker green grass shows some remaining blades from last season which have made their way back to the top, where as the lighter coloured grass displays the newer blades from the seeds we put out last week.

"The progress is obviously quite quick, but it is important we continue to treat the surface in the correct manner and the target is to continue to do that to make sure the pitch is in tip-top condition for when we play Stoke City on 29 July in a pre-season friendly.

"At the rate the grass is growing, I will be on the mower by the middle of next week giving the surface a trim - which is something I wasn't expecting."
