Defender Mike Edwards has backed the decision to move Notts County fans into the Kop Stand this coming season - and believes the loyal Magpies faithful are owed some payback for their time and patience.

For the 2008/09 season, for the very first time, Season Tickets are on sale for home fans in the Kop after two successful trials towards the back-end of last season.

And it is a topic that Edwards has revealed has been discussed amongst the players during the last year.

He told nottscountyfc.co.uk: "With the acoustics, it's something we've talked about before as a squad (moving Notts fans into the Kop).

"When the away fans were in the Kop, say there were 300-400 in there they were so much louder than our fans.

"It is down to the acoustics of the ground, and in the last two games of the season at home with our fans in the Kop the whole place was lifted - and we got the results we needed.

"There were around 4,000 in there for the Wycombe game, but it felt double that amount."

Around 1,000 Season Tickets have been sold for the Kop for the forthcoming campaign already - meaning there should be an atmosphere to savour at Meadow Lane for the new season.

27-year-old Edwards admits it is time to provide the Magpies fans with payback after last season's narrow escape from relegation, a third time in two seasons the Magpies have been scrapping it out at the wrong end of League Two.

And with well over 2,200 Season Tickets sold already Edwards feels the support from the Kop, and all areas of the ground, will be vital throughout the season.

"It is great, and it gives you a buzz. It is a lot better for us having the fans in the Kop," he said.

"It's fantastic to hear we've sold that many Season Tickets already.

"It shows our fans are optimistic we can do better next season, just like us.

"We know we have to do a lot better. We have to give them some payback for their time and patience, and also the money they put into the Club."
