Gaffer Happy With Defensive Options
Manager Ian McParland has revealed to nottscountyfc.co.uk which areas of his squad he would like to strengthen for next season.
The Notts gaffer has admitted he is happy with his defensive options after Notts recorded one of the best defensive records in League Two last season, but he is still on the look-out for a young right back after releasing Lee Canoville and Gary Silk earlier in the summer.
And the Scotsman is also focused on bringing more width and firepower to his squad in time for the new season.
Pre-season training kicks off next Tuesday (1 July), as preparations for the 2008/09 season begin to gather pace.
"I am quite happy at the back with my defensive options to be honest," said the Notts boss.
"I would perhaps like to bring in one more player there; a young right-sided full-back to make us a bit more solid there.
"We have Adam Tann and Paul Mayo as full-backs and also Stephen Hunt who can play full-back and centre-half.
"We have Tanny who can slot into the centre of defence and as well, and then of course we have Mike Edwards and Michael Johnson."
But it is the attacking side of the squad McParland is keen to improve, and he has already made moves to improve up the front with the signing of proven striker Jamie Forrester while he is also set to run the rule over non-league goal-machine Greg Pearson during pre-season.
He said: ""I would like to bring in another centre forward; that is very much in my thoughts.
"In midfield I would like to get that right side sorted and hopefully Matt Hamshaw (in talks over possible move to Meadow Lane from Mansfield) can be that player.
"We have Myles Weston on the left who I hope will come of age this year, but I would like to bring in another young left-sided player to challenge him."
Notts' two summer signings to date have been defender Michael Johnson from Derby County after an impressive loan spell towards the end of last season and 33-year-old Forrester from Lincoln City.
