Ian McParland has continued the rebuilding process at Notts County by signing talented midfielder Adam Nowland.

The 26-year-old was a free agent after being released from Preston North End in January and McParland is delighted to have secured his services.

He said: "I've watched Adam a lot over the years, from his time at MK Dons and West Ham and also worked alongside him at Nottingham Forest, so I know what he's all about.

"He's an accomplished central midfielder who's not afraid to get on the ball, dictate play and nick us the odd goal.

"I'm confident he can do a good job for us and he will help freshen up the squad and provide real competition for places."

Nowland is keen to get back into League football after playing for Lancaster City following his release from Preston and claimed the lure of working with McParland played a big part in his move to Meadow Lane.

He said: "I enjoyed being coached by the boss when we were at Forest and we kept in touch after I left.

"We have the same kind of beliefs about the way football should be played and I'm keen to repay the faith he's shown in offering me a contract.

"I've had a break from the game after a difficult time at Preston and feel refreshed and ready for the challenge.

"Notts County are a massive club and my aim is to earn a place in the side and prove a point to a few people."

Nowland began his career as a trainee at Blackpool, where he made 81 appearances before playing in the Championship with MK Dons and West Ham.

He spent a season with Forest before moving on to Preston, and has also had loan spells at Gillingham and Stockport.
