Pearson Opts To Remain Part-Time
Having spent the last three weeks on trial at Meadow Lane, trialist Greg Pearson has today signed for Blue Square Premier side Burton Albion.
Pearson scored once in two appearances for the Magpies during pre-season after teaming up with the squad on a trial basis after his impressive goalscoring exploits for Blue Square South outfit Bishop's Stortford last season caught the eye of Manager Ian McParland.
But the Notts boss has revealed that the former West Ham trainee was eager to continue in his University studies, rather than return to full-time professional football.
He said: "We tried to sign Greg. I'm a bit disappointed to be honest he hasn't joined us, but he has plumped to go to go to Burton Albion to continue playing part-time and continue with his University studies.
"We offered Greg a good deal, especially when you consider he still isn't tried and tested at League Two level.
"I did promise Greg that if he continued to do well that around Christmas time we would tear up his contract and offer him another one, but he has opted to go to Burton.
"I felt Greg had something and we could have improved him even more, but he wants to continue doing his University studies and play part time."
We'll have more from the Notts boss on nottscountyfc.co.uk on Saturday as he focuses his attentions on other transfer targets to bolster the firepower at his disposal.
